WHYFC hosts an Annual Spring Players Luncheon presented by EmergeOrtho, a fundraiser event whose proceeds go directly toward fees and expenses that come with participating in the club. Each year they award over $30,000 in need-based aid. This luncheon is an important contributor to this fundraising goal.
Over the years, WHYFC has secured some of the top soccer talent to speak at this luncheon. Past speakers included Olympic Gold Medalist, Heather O’Reilly, and National Champion Coach, Anson Dorrance. This year U.S. U-17 National Team Head Coach, John Hackworth, will speak.
In 2016, U.S. Women's National Team star Heather O'Reilly spoke at the event and shared these words with guests:
“My advice would be, to the players out there, to approach every training and game like there’s a camera on them at all times,” she said. “Keep good habits. Don’t hang on mistakes. Always the next play, focus with purpose. Be that player that somebody walking past the field will look at and say, ‘Wow.’”
In 2018, U17 Men's National Team Head Coach, John Hackworth will speak. John Hackworth is one of the most well-known soccer coaches in the United States. Hackworth took over US Soccer U-17 National Team in 2005 and was tasked to identify and develop future stars of US Soccer. He would guide the US U-17 Men's National Team to the 2005 and 2007 World Cups and would play a key role in developing future stars such as Landon Donovan, Oguchi Onyewu and current US Men's National Team Captain, Michael Bradley. Hackworth joined the professional ranks when he was appointed the Philadelphia Union (MLS) Head Coach in 2012 after his time in Philadelphia, Hackworth returned to the role of Head Coach of the US U-17 Men's National Coach in 2015 and in 2017 lead the group to his third World Cup. His reputation is that of a sharp-minded, forward thinking coach that players love to play for. Join us to hear his thoughts on leadership, team/business culture, and his observations about the game, people and business.
