Event designed to make-up cancelled games and raise funds for Hurricane Florence

WILMINGTON, NC - SEPTEMBER 27, 2018 - North Carolina Youth Soccer Association (NCYSA) and Wilmington Hammerheads Youth Soccer (WHYFC) are proud to announce and introduce The NCYSA Carolina Strong Festival: a weekend soccer festival to be held in Wilmington on November 17th and 18th that will raise funds for those affected by Hurricane Florence.

The festival will accommodate and host all NCYSA games throughout the state that were cancelled due to the Hurricane.  In addition to these make-up games the event is open to teams who were not affected by the Hurricane but would like to participate and support the event.

This festival came about during the Hurricane weeks when two things were apparent: (1) Coastal communities will need help rebuilding and (2) A lot of NCYSA games were cancelled due to the Hurricane, and will need to be re-scheduled.

The NCYSA Carolina Strong Festival will replace the annual WHYFC Beach Classic and will be held in Wilmington on November 17th and 18th.  With NCYSA’s support, the event will host all games cancelled as a result of the Hurricane.  Clubs and teams throughout the state will show their support by coming to Wilmington on this November weekend to play games that were cancelled due to the storm.

In addition to the cancelled games that will be made up, the event will be open to teams who did not have games cancelled.  All teams will be guaranteed two games during the event (1 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday).  If you only had one game cancelled because of the Hurricane, you will make this game up, and then you will get an additional non-counting game.

Teams are asked for a $250 donation for this event.  The money raised from this weekend be distributed to other coastal clubs affected by the Hurricane.

We are very proud that we were able to put an event like this together and hope that it brings the soccer community together to support all of those affected.  If you have friends, family, contacts who would like to be a part of this event, please pass this on.  We will also begin reaching out to businesses for support of this event.  The more support we can get, the more money we can distribute to those who need it.  We are in the process of updating our web site and making the necessary changes.
