Wilmington, NC Wilmington Hammerheads PDL announced today the addition of UNCW Alumni, Daniel Escobar, to the 2017 roster.

A Recent graduate of UNC Wilmington, Escobar came to Wilmington in 2012 after being recruited by UNCW Head Men’s Soccer Coach, Aidan Heaney.  Following graduation and a successful four year career on the UNCW men’s soccer team, Escobar joined the WHYFC Youth staff in the spring of 2016 serving as the Assistant Recreation and Juniors Director and has been with the club ever since.

“I’m very excited to have Dani committed to our first year in the PDL,” said Head Coach Kevin Johnson. “He has the passion and intensity that it takes to have success in this league full of future professionals. I think he’ll be a fan favorite from the start.”

After sitting out his first two years at UNCW due to knee injuries, Escobar made a name for himself during his junior and senior years with 36 appearances and more than 1300 minutes played. In his last two seasons, he scored 5 goals and added 6 assists. Escobar was also awarded the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award in 2014, 2015, and 2016.

“I’m extremely thankful to be a part of the Hammerheads, both as a staff and a player,” said Escobar. “I’m looking forward to getting the season started and helping the team succeed. I expect all of my players to come out and support the team.”
