Dear Wilmington Hammerheads Families,

As the sports medicine physicians for the Wilmington Hammerheads, EmergeOrtho has delivered high quality care to athletes in our community for more than fifty years.  Their team of sports medicine specialists are trained in the diagnosis and treatment of sports-related injuries and helping athletes to remain safe and active.  If injuries do occur, the EmergeOrtho medical team is there to support our athletes through injury to return-to-play.  EmergeOrtho’s sports medicine program is excited to announce a new partnership with SportGait, a leader in concussion software technology, concussion assessment and measurement.

As sports medicine providers, EmergeOrtho treats concussed athletes so they understand the need for players, parents, sports organizations, coaches, athletic trainers, and medical professionals to partner together to provide athletes with the care, treatment and support needed to go from timely diagnosis of an injury to safe return-to-play.

With that in mind, EmergeOrtho, the Wilmington Hammerheads and SportGait have partnered together to provide your athlete with a FREE Baseline Screening Event which will take place in March.  SportGait Brain Physical ® Baseline measures and monitor healthy brain function using physical and cognitive assessments prior to an injury. According to the CDC, 15.1% of High School students reported having at least one concussion related to sports or physical activity a year. To protect healthy brain function for our athletes, the Wilmington Hammerheads, EmergeOrtho and SportGait will provide SportGait Brain Physical ® Baselines to all Hammerhead players at zero cost to you

Like a yearly school physical, baseline screening helps us to assess the athlete before a concussion event takes place. If a concussion event occurs, we have a better understanding of the athlete’s pre-concussion state so we can properly assess and guide athletes and parents back to a safe return-to-play.
